Dunlop Crybaby

The Dunlop Crybaby is the most recognized wah pedal in production, using a rocker pedal to sweep a bandpass filter across the frequency spectrum. While primarily associated with classic rock and funk, the Crybaby has found a place in shoegaze and noise rock when used in unconventional ways, including parking the pedal at fixed positions to shape distortion tone or rocking slowly through the sweep to create vowel-like textures within walls of fuzz. J Mascis employs a Crybaby as a regular part of his signal chain, using it to add vocal quality to his solos. The pedal's affordability and durability have kept it in continuous production since 1966, with numerous signature and modified editions offering varied voicings and features.
