Gary Moore played Peter Green's actual 1959 Les Paul — borrowed from Green himself — on the recording of Parisienne Walkways, one of the most emotionally raw guitar performances ever committed to tape. He later purchased the guitar outright, making him the custodian of the most storied Les Paul in existence. Moore's career spanned hard rock with Thin Lizzy, heavy metal, and a late-career return to Chicago blues that many consider his finest work. His tone — high-gain Les Paul into Marshall — became the template for melodic rock lead playing in the 1980s.
