Mogwai

Mogwai formed in Glasgow in 1995, becoming central figures in the post-rock movement through their mastery of dynamic extremes. The band's primarily instrumental music moves between near-silent passages and overwhelming walls of distorted guitar, using volume itself as a compositional element. Their 1997 debut Mogwai Young Team established a template of patient builds and cathartic release that influenced countless bands. Stuart Braithwaite's guitar work alternates between delicate clean arpeggios and massive overdriven textures, often within the same piece. Over a career spanning more than a dozen studio albums, Mogwai have expanded into soundtrack work, scoring the television series Les Revenants and Kin. Unlike many post-rock acts, they have maintained a consistent lineup and output, avoiding the diminishing returns that often accompany longevity in instrumental rock.
