Twisted Sister

Twisted Sister formed in Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey in 1972 and spent over a decade developing a loyal following in New York's club circuit before finally signing with Atlantic Records. Vocalist Dee Snider's confrontational personality and the band's outrageous visual presentation — all spandex, teased hair, and war paint — made them a natural target for the PMRC censorship hearings of 1985, where Snider delivered a celebrated Congressional testimony defending rock music. We're Not Gonna Take It and I Wanna Rock from You Can't Stop Rock 'N' Roll (1983) and Stay Hungry (1984) became anthems that transcended the hair metal genre. The band officially retired in 2016 following the death of drummer A.J. Pero.
