English rock band formed in Bradford in 1983 by vocalist Ian Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy. Evolved from post-punk and gothic rock on Dreamtime and Love (featuring She Sells Sanctuary) into hard rock with Electric (1987, produced by Rick Rubin) and Sonic Temple (1989). Duffy's Gretsch White Falcon is one of the most recognizable guitars in rock. Over 40 years and 11 albums they have defied categorization across goth, hard rock, and alternative.
