Supergrass
Supergrass formed in Oxford in 1993 and were the youngest and most energetically joyful band of the Britpop era. Alright from their debut I Should Coco was the sound of being nineteen in 1995 — a bouncing, three-chord rush that somehow referenced The Kinks and The Beach Boys simultaneously. Gaz Coombes was barely eighteen when the debut was recorded. Their follow-up In It For The Money in 1997 darkened their sound considerably, proving they had more range than the Britpop tag suggested. Coombes played a Gibson Les Paul and Fender Stratocaster through Marshall and Vox amps, with keyboard player Mick Quinn contributing to a fuller sound than most Britpop trios managed.
