Pulp
Pulp formed in Sheffield in 1978 under Jarvis Cocker, who spent fifteen years in obscurity before Different Class made him the most articulate voice of the Britpop era in 1995. Common People — a song about class tourism, written by a working-class boy watching a rich girl play at poverty — became the movement's defining anthem and Glastonbury 1995's central moment. Cocker despised the Britpop label and the nationalism it carried, but he was its most gifted satirist regardless. His guitar of choice was a Raleigh Chopper-red Burns Bison. The band used Fender Telecasters, Marshall amps, and string arrangements to frame Cocker's deadpan observations about sex, class, and Sheffield.
