Super Furry Animals

Super Furry Animals formed in Cardiff in 1993 and were the most genuinely strange band to emerge from the Britpop era — their debut Fuzzy Logic in 1996 contained pop songs about Howard Marks, a tank they bought to tour in, and sonic experiments that owed more to Can and the Beach Boys than to Oasis. Gruff Rhys's guitar work was melodic and odd in equal measure. They recorded in Welsh and English, toured in a tank painted with the face of Howard Marks, and produced records of genuine experimental ambition while maintaining chart-friendly singles. Rings Around the World in 2001 is considered their masterpiece and one of the best Welsh rock albums ever made.
