MXR Phase 90
The MXR Phase 90 is a single-knob phaser pedal that produces a smooth, sweeping modulation effect by splitting the guitar signal and shifting one copy's phase relationship. At lower speed settings it adds subtle movement and dimension to clean or lightly driven tones, while higher speeds produce a more obvious warble associated with 1970s psychedelia. In shoegaze contexts, the Phase 90 is often used at slow settings to add gentle motion to reverb-heavy patches, preventing static textures from becoming lifeless. The pedal's script logo version, based on the original 1974 circuit, is particularly sought after for its warmer, less pronounced sweep. Its compact size and simple operation make it an easy addition to crowded pedalboards where modulation is needed without complexity.
