The White Stripes

garage-rockdetroitminimalistjack-meg-whitered-white-black
American rock duo from Detroit formed in 1997 by Jack and Meg White. Stripped rock back to its essentials — guitar, drums, voice — and made it feel genuinely dangerous again. Elephant (2003) and White Blood Cells are the defining records. Jack White plays a 1964 JB Hutto Montgomery Ward Airline guitar and a Gretsch through a Sears Silvertone amp, deliberately using cheap equipment to force creative limitations.
