Simple Minds formed in Glasgow in 1977, evolving from post-punk experimentation into one of the biggest stadium acts of the 1980s. Early albums including Empires and Dance (1980) and Sons and Fascination (1981) established a dense, atmospheric sound influenced by Kraftwerk and David Bowie. Don't You (Forget About Me) from the Breakfast Club soundtrack (1985) became their signature song and a global hit, though vocalist Jim Kerr has expressed ambivalence about the track. Once Upon a Time (1985) and Street Fighting Years (1989) confirmed their arena status. They continue to tour and record with Kerr and guitarist Charlie Burchill as the core lineup.
