Depeche Mode
Depeche Mode formed in Basildon, Essex in 1980, evolving from a lightweight electro-pop act into one of the most influential electronic bands in history. After original songwriter Vince Clarke departed to form Yazoo, Martin Gore took over songwriting duties, steering the band toward darker, more complex territory. Albums including Some Great Reward (1984), Violator (1990), and Songs of Faith and Devotion (1993) established them as a stadium-filling act with a devoted global fanbase. Violator in particular is considered one of the greatest electronic albums ever made. Founding member Andy Fletcher died in May 2022. The band released Memento Mori in 2023 as a tribute to his memory.
