Korg M1

The Korg M1 is a music workstation synthesizer introduced in 1988, combining digital sample playback with onboard effects and a sequencer. It became one of the best-selling synthesizers in history, with its factory presets — particularly a piano sound called "Piano 16'" and an atmospheric pad called "Beauty" — appearing on countless records of the late 1980s and early 1990s. Gary Numan acquired the Korg M1 in the mid-1980s and has continued using its "Beauty" preset on records through to the present day, describing it as a sound with a haunting overtone that he has never found replicated elsewhere.
