The Misfits

The Misfits formed in Lodi, New Jersey in 1977, founded by vocalist Glenn Danzig and bassist Jerry Only. Pioneers of horror punk — a fusion of punk rock aggression with horror movie imagery and B-movie lyrical themes — they developed a melodic approach to punk that set them apart from contemporaries. The classic lineup of Danzig, Jerry Only, and guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein recorded Walk Among Us (1982) and Earth A.D./Wolfs Blood (1983) before breaking up in a legal dispute. Though largely unknown during their existence, covers by Metallica and Guns N' Roses in the 1980s and 1990s cemented their legacy. Their Crimson Ghost skull logo became one of the most recognizable images in rock. Danzig, Only, and Doyle reunited in 2016 for sold-out shows as The Original Misfits.
