The Stray Cats revived rockabilly by leaving America for London in 1980 and coming back as MTV icons. Brian Setzer's Gretsch 6120 through a Fender Bassman with slapback echo replicated the Sun Studio palette and made it a top ten hit in the synth-pop era. Built for Speed went platinum in 1982. They proved an audience existed for music the industry had declared dead.
