Marc Bolan
Marc Bolan's solo work traced the arc from acoustic folk to electric glam, his Gibson Les Paul tone growing warmer and more saturated as he moved from the delicate fingerpicking of his early recordings toward the amplified swagger that would become T. Rex. His Fender Stratocaster provided the brighter, thinner texture heard on his more psychedelic material, while an Orange amplifier's natural compression and midrange bark gave his tone a distinctly British character. Bolan's gear evolution mirrored his artistic one — each instrument change marking a shift in persona as much as sound.
