Creedence Clearwater Revival formed in El Cerrito, California in 1959 and reached their peak between 1968 and 1970, releasing five albums in two years. John Fogerty's voice and Rickenbacker guitar cut through AM radio like no one else of the era. Bayou Country, Green River, and Willy and the Poor Boys are Southern-sounding records made by Bay Area kids who had never been to Louisiana, and they are among the most purely enjoyable rock records ever made.
