Vox Phantom

The Vox Phantom is a solidbody electric guitar with a distinctive pentagonal body shape, originally produced in the 1960s as part of Vox's expansion from amplifiers into instruments. Its unique angular design and single-coil pickups produce a bright, cutting tone with a nasal midrange character unlike conventional Fender or Gibson guitars. Art Alexakis of Everclear identifies the Vox Phantom as his first guitar, purchased by his mother at a pawn shop for forty dollars. While Alexakis moved to Guild and Gibson guitars for Everclear's recordings, the Vox Phantom represents the entry point for a guitarist who would go on to write some of the 1990s' most recognizable alternative rock songs. Original 1960s Phantoms are collectible vintage instruments, while occasional reissues have been produced by Vox and licensed manufacturers. The guitar's association with 1960s British invasion bands and its distinctive silhouette make it one of the most visually recognizable guitars in rock history.
