Tiny Guitar Pick

Billy Gibbons is famous for using extremely small, lightweight guitar picks — typically a modified peso coin or Dunlop Tortex picks filed down to a tiny size. This unconventional technique forces a lighter touch and more finger contact with the strings, producing the warm, rounded attack and natural harmonics that characterize Gibbons's distinctive blues-rock tone. The tiny pick allows the fleshy part of the thumb and finger to partially mute and shape each note, creating a fat, compressed sound that larger picks cannot replicate. Gibbons's pick technique has been widely studied and imitated, becoming one of the most discussed playing methods in blues guitar.
