Prince Symbol Guitar

The Symbol Guitar was built to embody Prince's unpronounceable name glyph during his battle with Warner Bros. in the mid-1990s. Luthier Jerry Auerswald crafted the instrument in the shape of Prince's Love Symbol, a fusion of male and female gender symbols. Despite its impractical appearance, the guitar is a playable instrument with EMG pickups and a fixed bridge, producing tones suitable for both Prince's funk rhythm work and his searing lead playing. The Symbol Guitar represents the ultimate fusion of musical instrument and political statement — a physical manifestation of artistic independence.
