Roger Mayer Octavia

The Roger Mayer Octavia is an octave-fuzz pedal originally hand-built for Jimi Hendrix in 1967. It generates a note one octave above the input by full-wave rectifying the guitar signal, then blends this with fuzz distortion for a searing, bell-like tone. Hendrix debuted the Octavia on 'Purple Haze' and used it extensively on 'Fire,' 'One Rainy Wish,' and the Band of Gypsys recordings. The effect is most pronounced on notes above the twelfth fret, where the octave tracking is cleanest, producing Hendrix's signature screaming lead tone.
