Kustom Tuck-N-Roll Amp
The Kustom Tuck-N-Roll amplifier is a solid-state combo produced from the late 1960s through the 1970s, instantly recognizable by its padded, naugahyde-covered cabinet available in colors including black, white, silver, red, and cascade. Despite its solid-state circuit — typically dismissed by tube purists — the Kustom delivers a distinctive clean tone with a glassy, slightly compressed character and impressive headroom for its era. Chris Ballew of the Presidents of the United States of America made the Kustom Tuck-N-Roll his primary amplifier, describing it as indispensable to his sound. The amp's solid-state reliability and clean headroom suited Ballew's unconventional two-string basitar playing, reproducing the instrument's unusual overtones without the coloration of tube saturation. Vintage Tuck-N-Roll amps have become collectible for their distinctive aesthetics and association with surf, garage, and alternative rock.
