Hohner Madcat Telecaster
The Hohner Madcat is a Telecaster-style guitar with a natural wood finish and leopard-print pickguard that Prince made famous during the Dirty Mind and 1999 era. A relatively inexpensive Japanese-made instrument, Prince chose it for its bright, snappy single-coil tone and lightweight body that allowed his acrobatic stage moves. The Madcat's neck pickup delivers warm jazz voicings while the bridge cuts with country twang — versatility that matched Prince's genre-fluid musical approach. He modified his with a humbucker in the neck position for added thickness on rhythm parts.
