Guild Bluesbird
The Guild Bluesbird is a single-cutaway solidbody guitar with dual humbucking pickups, introduced in the 1970s as Guild's competitor to the Gibson Les Paul. Its mahogany body and neck produce a warm, thick tone with good sustain, while its humbuckers deliver a slightly different voicing from Gibson equivalents — a touch more open and less compressed in the midrange. Art Alexakis of Everclear used the Guild Bluesbird on the band's debut World of Noise, its raw output feeding into a malfunctioning Fender Super Twin amplifier to produce the raucous, barely-controlled guitar sound that distinguished the album. The Bluesbird's affordable price point compared to Gibson Les Pauls made it accessible to working musicians in the early 1990s underground scene. While Guild has periodically reissued the Bluesbird, original 1970s models remain the most sought-after for their specific tonal character and historical association.
