Dan Hawkins plays Gibson Les Paul Standards exclusively, distinguishing his sound from Justin's Customs. His primary guitar Dune — a 2000 Gibson Les Paul Standard in honeyburst given to him by Justin when the band formed — has been his number one since day one. He left the stock 498T humbuckers because he likes their aggressive high-output bite. His only modification was adding a TonePros bridge and tailpiece for better intonation. He plays with a soft plectrum near the bridge, producing a barking tone that contrasts with Justin's luxurious Custom.
