Gibson J-45
The Gibson J-45, nicknamed 'The Workhorse,' has been the choice of singer-songwriters since its introduction in 1942. Its round-shouldered dreadnought body, mahogany back and sides, and Sitka spruce top produce a warm, midrange-focused tone that sits perfectly under vocals without competing for frequency space. Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and Paul Simon all relied on the J-45's forgiving character — less boomy than a rosewood dreadnought, more intimate and vocal in its projection. Its shorter 24.75-inch scale encourages a looser, more expressive playing feel.
