Bogner Shiva
The Bogner Shiva is an 80-watt, two-channel tube amplifier head that has earned a reputation as one of the finest boutique rock amplifiers ever produced. Its clean channel delivers chimey, three-dimensional tones with bell-like harmonics, while its overdrive channel produces smooth, saturated distortion that maintains note separation even at extreme gain settings. Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains adopted the Shiva as his primary amplifier, drawn to its dynamic response and ability to transition between clean passages and crushing distortion within the same song. Reinhold Bogner's circuit design emphasizes touch sensitivity — the amp responds expressively to picking dynamics, cleaning up when played softly and compressing naturally when driven hard. The Shiva's EL34 power tubes contribute a British-voiced midrange character, while its closed-loop negative feedback design tightens the low end for precise, controlled heaviness. Available in head and combo formats, the Shiva remains one of Bogner's flagship models.
