Akai MPC 3000
The Akai MPC 3000 is a sampling drum machine and sequencer that became the centerpiece of 1990s and 2000s pop, hip-hop, and R&B production. Its sixteen velocity-sensitive rubber pads, 16-bit sampling engine, and tight timing resolution allow producers to program beats with a humanized feel impossible to achieve with purely quantized sequencing. Madonna's Ray of Light era and subsequent records incorporated MPC-programmed rhythms for their organic groove and punchy transient character. The MPC's swing parameter — adjustable timing offset — gives its patterns a distinctive bounce.
