Queens of the Stone Age
Queens of the Stone Age formed in Palm Desert in 1996 out of the ashes of Kyuss, with Josh Homme as the sole continuous member. They took the desert rock template and pushed it toward a more melodic, groove-oriented direction that proved commercially viable without losing its weight. Songs for the Deaf, Rated R, and ...Like Clockwork are their definitive records. Dave Grohl played drums on Songs for the Deaf. They are the most commercially successful band to emerge from the Palm Desert scene.
