Feeble Little Horse formed in Pittsburgh, anchored by Lydia Slocum's songwriting which buries pop hooks beneath layers of distortion, feedback, and lo-fi recording artifacts. The band channels the melodic instincts of 90s indie rock through a shoegaze filter so thick that choruses emerge from the noise like signals through static. Slocum and guitarist Sebastian Kinsler build their sound on Fender Jazzmasters pushed through Death By Audio reverb pedals, creating a tonal palette that is simultaneously harsh and inviting. Ryan Walchak's bass and Jacob Kendall's drums provide a rhythmic anchor beneath the guitar chaos, maintaining groove even as the upper frequencies dissolve into feedback. Their 2023 album Girl with Fish received critical attention for its ability to make genuinely catchy songs sound like they were recorded in a collapsing building — an aesthetic choice that recalls early My Bloody Valentine and the Swirlies' lo-fi approach to the genre. Feeble Little Horse represent a generation of shoegaze bands who grew up with the genre's classic records as foundational texts rather than contemporary discoveries, absorbing the lessons of Loveless and Souvlaki while filtering them through DIY production values and punk energy.
